14th December 2004 I did a wheelie today that i managed to cog into second while still up high. I was pretty darn chuffed and felt that i was gonna make it my longest wheelie ever, by riding it out. It felt so good. Then as the pressure of holding the bike up took hold, it fell out of gear and dropped down. I felt/feel pretty bummed about this even now. I also went to Cycle Gear in Oxnard today, apart from a slight detour (I forgot to look for my exit so missed it), it was uneventful. The Teknic boots i went to the shop for were not in evidence. And it appears that their shops don't stock everything, and this shop doesn't stock the Teknic boots. ARGH!  I shall call the next closest store tomorrow and see if i can go there. The shop today was about 28 miles away, tomorrow it will be about 35 miles away. Spoke with my brother David, endless chatter about bikes... good times :)

Here is what the bikes look like in me garage.. i am replacing the rear indicators, as the ones the guy had put on are CRAPO MUNDO!!!

====================================================================

12th December 2004 I went on a ride with some guys from sportbiker.net yesterday. But first a bunch of us met up for breakfast at some buger joint in south Pasadena.

Breakfast was great, a nice omelette and toast. Yummy. Apart from getting lost for 10 minutes in Pasadena it went perfectly. It was also great to meet a few new faces too. Out of the 6 at breakfast only me and Herb went onto the shell and i was glad to meet another new face (RJuan). Also glad that when i was following them up the mountain i had a change of arse in from of me. Yellow all the way? No way hehehe. A quick gas up at the shell and off we went, a real nice pace for me. I thoroughly enjoyed it and can only feel bad about all the others not making it out there ( And my Bro in England suffering the cold, yeah it was 80 degrees here!). Also glad i was with a couple of guys who don't mind top speed when a straight appears (ok, almost a straight [lol3] ). We stopped at the Tree for a brief rest.

Then we had some free entertainment at the tree (there were about 12 guys already there, not sure where from). Then a souped  up corvette appeared, they then decided to do a show for us, hehee.  The show was two litre bikes (maybe i shoulda looked at what they were?! maybe Yams). Anyway, they disappeared for a while and then did a speed run down past the tree. They were all going pretty damn fast! And it sounded wonderfull. Then we got going back down whatever the road is called, and down lower T i think, although i missed the turn off and had to u turn hehe. Here the road was still damp in places although i didn't see any real dirt. We kept a nice sensible pace the whole way and finally split to go different ways along the 210. Most car drivers had been very curteous to us and moved out of the way when the opportunity arose, so good job car drivers. [boink]

All in all it was a great ride and so much better than i expected (i expected to ride in the rain or really damp conditions). So woohoo for end of year ride (number 1) [Big Grin]

I would have taken video :(  but alas both my batteries were dead. Ahh well, i reckon it would been exciting video, as for the first tmie i felt like i was going faster into the corners because of leaning off. Usually i go at the corner at the same speed as if i was in the middle of the seat. Then realise i am hardly leaning cos of hanging off. Yesterday i tried real hard to go in a little faster than i normal. Anyway it worked well and i worked the tires real good i think. I will try to get a photo of the tire, although it doesn't blister up this one, just goes all shiny.

====================================================================

4th December 2004I went to the big motorbike show today in Long beach. It's 65 miles away and it rained down there. Although it was beautiful up here in Simi. Anyway, i managed to spend about 500 bucks on gear and extra's :)  I am informed that the super shammy is wonderful and i got them at a great price too. But the main things i bought was this. I wuold have had a rear picture, but the camera batteries decided to go just then. :O   I did buy them separately but they are Both Joe Rocket and they have an all around Zip that connects to two pieces. There fore I can use this to ride on the track. The pants do not have a knee slider though, not sure what to do about that!... more to come later 8D

17th November 2004OK, so much to tell everyone, but it'll have to wait. Cos it's late! So here is my new bike :)

  DR650 2003, 450 miles. erm, blue and white :)

====================================================================

8th November 2004Went off to work today, on my bike of course. And on the way i got 3 red lights.. Woohoo. Yup i love them buggers on my bike, just as much as i dislike them when in the car. The main reason being that i get to accelerate off and practice a wheelie. Well it wasn't at one of these red lights, but i did do a great wheelie (for me), where i notched it up to second and managed to ride it out longer than ever before (maybe 5 more microseconds :O ). I was so happy, mainly as i was so relaxed while doing it etc. But that just wasn't the end of it.

On the way home tonight in the dark i  have a left tunr onto tierra rejada road. After i turned left i brought the bike up and as it came higher i notched it into second and pulled back the throttle a ways. I couldn't believe it, my best ever wheelie. The bike usualy just goes downwards when i get second gear. But this time it came back up again, not fast, but nice. Then i had to let it down before i got the the red light up ahead. This is my first ever wheelie where i felt that i could ride it out. It didn't feel like it was falling at all. So that's my day. It's a pity i didn't have my camera on, even though we wouldn't have seen much, it would have been nice to compare with my other vids, sound wise at least.

Ride safe ya'll.

23rd October 2004Went on a ride with some of the sportbikers group. It was fantastic. i had a real blast and my best trip so far on the 954. A couple of the guys took photo's and here is a link to them. Here is a link to what i said, and the PRE-RIDE waffle, yeah it got busy, but that was because of Rain and confusion on my part :) I do sound excited with my after ride remarks eh :D

2nd October 2004,  I used my new camera mount yesterday, and i am so pleased with the results. Here is an excert of my travel to work. Ok, so it's a video of me doing a wheelie :)    I'll post more stuff about the mount later and video's later 8D

1st October 2004,  I have been suffering this week with Vertigo. It appears i probably had a virus of the inner ear and it made me all dizzy. The Dr gave me some tablets and i guess they helped, but they made me very tired later in the day. Anyway i feel better now. So i can ride again. I wasn't even allowed to ride while i had vertigo :( So what happened while i wasn't actually riding......

 Let me tell ya..

First my new rear tire arrived. And so i took my wheel off my bike. Here is a comparison of the tread.

I am quite pleased with the usage i got, about 1500 miles (it wasn't a brand new tire when i got it.

Then someone on Sportbikers posted about a tank camera mount for 40 bucks. Sweet, so i bought the thing, total cost being 50 bucks. It arrived on thursday, so that was a quick turn around. So last night i decided to fit the new rear tire and the camera mount as well :) Here are some photo's of the camera mount. Notice how i secured the camera in case of a bolt undoing while riding. Also it does not catch the speedo as it is too high up :(  Not sure what to do about that. If i turn it down i think you won't be able to see the road ahead, and it'll make ya feel sick. We shall see once i do some tests.

====================================================================

23rd September 2004,  I went to the SFV bike night once more last week. This time i took Eliza with me on the back. I was gonna go in the car because of my worn back tire, but i thuoght what the heck, cos after giving it a close inspection it wasn't so bad. So we set off a bit late and arrived at about 9pm. We have to leave there at 10pm cos of the community, which is aok :)  While we were there we had a nice hot chocolate and scone from the coffee shop. Hmm, delicioso.......  We looked at lots of bikes, and chatted about al the people there, we met up with friend of mine Brett and his lovely wife Shanna. And chatted to a few other bikers. Then all of a sudden it was time to leave! Well we went off to the freeway on ramp, which i always seem to get wrong here, but apart from one suicidal car driver that i saw coming up on me it went pretty smoothly. But this on ramp has a stop sign before you get to burn onto the freeway itself. So i told the missus that i was gonna show her some real acceleration. So as we pulled off she got a hold of and leaned right into me, and i burned off. Now i say burned but it felt more like a slow take off, even though i was trying hard. Don't get me wrong, there is plenty of power there, but with the center of mass moved back a little with having a passenger it made the bike want to wheelie. It eventually did wheelie in third. I feel a little frustrated with this, cos it wasn't really going fast enough for me. So Liza never really got to feel the excitement of a fast takeoff. But she did get to do her first passenger wheelie Yippee! The rest of the ride home was ok, but at that time of night and it being so dark, people on the freeway are either steady or maniacs. I don't really like it too much cos the maniacs are harder to see in your mirrors. So all in all we had a good night and i am sure it was quite exciting for my wife. It was also good to take a passenger that holds onto the grab rail and knows how to relax. I mean, if you saw the way passengers over here hold onto the rider you would find it quite weird i am sure. I do :O

New tires ETA is monday  :(

====================================================================

20th September 2004,  Weeeell, i am waiting for a new rear tire to arrive, and it looks lik I will havta wait till monday, boo hoo. Luckily for me i still have some rubber left on my back tire, now it isn't what i would call tread exactly, but it's good ole rubber in my eyes, yeah it's hard and slippy, but only if i push it, and pushing it a bit while fully upright doesn't seem to be much of an issue. So i decided i will ride it to work and back, no other rides, and every night or morning i will check the tire all around to make sure it's aok.

So this morning i set off to work on the bike, and as  turned down Madera road the road was open before me, and it has been a few days since i last rode :O , so i whooped the bike up in first and clicked it to second. I then proceeded to ride the bike along a little ways in second till i let it gently fall back to earth. It was my first second gear wheelie that i haven't had any anxiety at all about. Woohoo! Well wouldn't ya believe it, i get near work and take the left hander and New L.A. is open before me, so i twist it back once more and lift the bike right up, again i click it into second and ride it through a little, then gently place it back on terra firma. They both felt really good, and i felt confident and calm while doing them. Maybe there is more to come now, i felt like i could have clicked third each time as well. Now all i need to do is be on a longer road, so i can stay up there longer and really get used to be on one wheel.

====================================================================

14th September 2004,   Ok, ok. so i have missed out a couple of important things lately. so here goes with a recap...

3 weeks ago on a sunday i went out for my first ride with the Sportbikers.net group of people. It was so cool to finally meet some of them and ride with them too. We met at a 7-11 off the 210 which is at the end of the 188 east from me, and that is 25 miles away. :)  So i got there and expected about 6 of us, in total we ended up with 12 riders and it was Hot. We went up a ride called little T, (little tujunga), this road winds up and through some great mountains from the 210 to the 14. We then went somewhere else after this road (can't remember the name!) which was sweepers, and real fast. I enjoyed the ride, and little T itself is about 20 miles of bends. I practiced hard to get my knee down, but in the end i don't think i was close. Eventually the group needed food and so they went to Mad1's house for food, this was a good time for me to head back home fro lunch. So i went back down little T and then by the freeway home. In all i left home at 8:15am, and got back at 12:30pm. Not a bad mornings ride, and i musta done 100 miles plus :)

2 weeks ago i decided to try little T by myself as noone else was going there, and it was a last minute decision. I really wanted to work on learning the road a bit, and also trying to get me knee down again. I had a great time and i was back by 10am (left at 8am). It was fun, but riding buddies makes it better!

Last week my mate Andy got a bike, it's a cbr600rr all blue 2004 version. It is very nice, and Andy is treating it well, he is riding very conservative (he has been out of riding for about 6 years now) which is good. I hope to have a go once it's run in properly, as i don't want to monitor my revs when i give it a go, after all i am stepping down from a rocket cycle :O

I have done a few really wheelie's. I am now bringing the bike up much faster in first gear, and changing to second is now a no brainer. In fact i am now getting it to hook up in second, which as you ride along in second with the wheel up in the air gets more scarey the longer it's up there! So i am getting proud of my wheelie skill and show off whenever the chance arises, like at lights and stop signs etc ;)

So my back tire is now looking sad. The middle bit has gone down to some hard under rubber, and the left side offset from the center is the same. This actually causes the bike to slide while leaned over, and today i was going around a left hand curve and started to apply the throttle, when the bike did a nice powerslide. This was weird as i wasn't pushing it at all (80 mph). So i figured it is because the shiny under rubber is NOT grippy at all. therefore allowing the bike to slide like that. So now i need another rear tire. ARGH! hehehe I lost a bidding war on ebay last week for a replacement, so i might have to buy one full price, eeek!

I want my money back on my suit, but i haven't been in contact with DVX as yet. i haven't tried phoning them in the last week though, and it appears they might have their number working now. Today i bought myself some mesh trousers fro riding around in, much much better than those tracksuit bottoms i usually wear, AND they won't disintegrate on contact with the road. I also tried on some Sidi boots, and they just do NOT fit the shape of my foot, they are so uncomfortable. So i am not going to be able to ride much in the coming days because of the tire, which is a bummer for sure.

Byeee for now. off to search the web for tire deals 8D

====================================================================

10th August 2004,   Riding = Great

So i am finally getting over my virus and 103 degree temperatures. So i got to go on a bike ride. YAY. I really wanted to ride earlier in the week, as being ill had made it impossible for me to ride for a number of days. I get withdrawal symptoms you know.

It was Sunday 11am. Temperature outside was a balmy 95 degrees. I decided to get my leather trousers on complete with sliders. Thankfully my mesh jacket is awesome and kept me at a nice temperature for most of the ride.

So armed with my nice leather pants and knee sliders i figured a good way to start my ride was to figure 8 the freeway on ramps. This would get me relaxed on the bike and get me used to wheelieing again. So Olson and sunset on the 23 were my ramps of choice, being only about 1/4 mile apart makes them great. Although the surface on the sunset entrance is a little rough.

Off i went doing the figure 8, enjoying the thrill of warming up the tires, and also enjoying the smooth fast acceleration of the bike. Wheeeee..... Well i decided it was time to get my knee down and use the puck for what it's for. Not like last time when i scraped it by falling off. Well i was going around the on ramps leaning the bike over quite a long way. For example if i had been using the original pegs then they would have been scraping all over the floor, but with my new pegs, no such happenings. This didn't get my knee down though. Even though i was off the bike slightly and knee out, it did not touch. I am not sure how close it was, it felt close. So i don't really know what's wrong with my riding posture whilst trying this. I need a video or photo to tell me. I am guessing my butt cheek wasn't off the bike enough to touch my knee down. But that's only speculation.

Then i decided that i had done enough of this riding and went off into the country roads. Where i managed to get up to 136mph at one point whilst traveling down a tree lined road. Very nice scenery, and give a good impression of speed too. I also managed to hook up a couple of second gear wheelies, but didn't have great directional control, so had to put them down early on.

Then i was starting to get hot, so i had a nice gentle ride home again. Where it was lunch time and i was hungry :)

Okay, so it ended up being a DQ lunch but what the hell =D

====================================================================

18th July 2004,   THE ART OF WHEELIE'S...

Part 1:

So i have been having so much trouble with my first gear wheelie's, and i believe i found the reason. It is because i got so much comfortable with them i would bring the bike up much much faster. This has caused me to have to throttle off a bit when the bike gets up high, this in first gear on my bike brings about a swift reaction. That being that the bike dives back to earth. So i decided i was ready for phase two. This is where once the bike is going upwards, you jam it into second gear and keep it under control with a much more insensitive and easy to control gear. Now i have been practising this on and off, and i have not had a single bad gear change, i am doing it clutchless of course, and my bike is good at clutchless changes, or i am with this bike. Whatever it is, it's been pretty good. Now i have managed to change into second alright, but the bike would come back down to earth nice and calmly. Now i have been changing gear at a  low level, maybe about 6 inches to a foot of front wheel clearance. But am getting more and more confident as each time it goes so well.

Part 2:

Yesterday i went for a little ride with my friend and workmate AND the guy i sold my 750 too :)  We went and did a loop of the freeway on ramps on the 23. At sunset exit ramp i have to cross the bridge to come back onto the freeway, and it s a perfect place to try my wheelie's out. And BOY i did it, on about my third try. YUPPITY doo dah! I got the wheel fairly high in first (maybe 2 feet or a bit more). Then i plopped it into second and it stayed up, and i drove along a short way in second. I was/am sooo stoked about this. I had a massive adrenaline rush and was whooping away in my helmet for ages. Also Janry saw it too. Then on the next circuit Janry touched down his peg on the right side. So it was a GREAT day for the both of us. For sure we both went home feeling great about ourselves.

Suits:

 This has been an annoying and worrisome word for a little while now. But people have started to get their suits. So i am hopeful mine is going be soon as well. Wish me luck.

====================================================================

11th July 2004, I thought i should mention a ride i went on (4th July). This ride was with the SFV biker group (San Fernando Valley Bike Night Riders, www.sfvbikenight.com ) . This is a large group of riders and they seem like a real nice bunch. One of my friends Brett rides with them quite often. On this particular july 4th morning Brett was going on his last ride as a bachelor, as he was getting married later in the day. Well for once i managed to organise myself enough to go out and ride with them. They were as expected a real nice bunch, and quite chatty about bikes and women and just about anything really. I was instantly comfortable with them. I met up with them at 10am and then we waited for all the bikes to roll in (when i got there i was number 4). When we left the coffee shop, there were about 30 of us, with about 4-5 2 uppers, and maybe 2-3 women riders. We rode through some mountain twisties that i have never ridden before, but were a lot of fun. I started somewhere in mid pack, and as i was faster than some in front of me they kept on waving me thru, which was real cool. We then passed some cops who pulled over a few of our lead riders, and i had quite a rush as i popped a wheelie right before i saw one of the cop cars lights. EEEeek, luckily for me he was busy with one of our bikers. So then we head to Mulholland where i know the roads thru the Santa Monica mountains. This made me a bit faster as i knew the roads. Boy it was fun. Eventualy we headed for the Rock store where Jay Leno was posing as usual, but we didn't stop as it was incredibly busy there. So we rode on and to one of my favourite but not too long twisty sections of mountain road. I have to say i got stuck behind someone who did not know the road, and as i did this was a little frustrating as he was using ALL his concentration to handle the difficult section of road. So i had to wait for a bit till i was at the only small bit of straight on the road, then i zoomed past, and then immediately caught up with someone else, but this person was very quick to let me past, as was the next, which was real sweet. So then i had clear road to zoom up to lookout point where we were all stopping for a while. This while took way longer than i would like, and after spending nearly an hour there before rolling out again, i was out of time for my ride. Luckily for me they were rolling in the direction i was going, and heading for the back of Westlake. I also know this road very well and once more starting zooming past people, till i caught up with a group more my speed. We were going down Dekker canyon which is quite tough and i had to make a speedy maneouver to overtake a slower rider in front of me (some people don't like turning while going downhill on the brakes it seems, can't think why, hehee). So that was fun and i eventualy waved at the group as they rode on without me down through hidden hills.

 It was a great ride, although not enough riding for me, and a great bunch of people. I sure hope to go out with them again sometime. As well as the Sportbikers group. And yes, i am STILL awaiting my suit for the track day. Which is my most anticipated thing to do....

When i get my wheelie's going properly again, i'll get some better footage. Gosh i wish they would work again, they feel crap right now :(

====================================================================

6th July 2004, I haven't posted in quite a while. Mainly as i haven't done anything new to the bike to brag about. I have however been practising my Wheelie's. I am getting much better now, but i found tonight that i cannot just do them to order, like when a friend is gonna video ya for example. Ahhh well. Here is what i did manage to do anyway. Maybe i'll keep getting better, i sure hope so. Oh yeah, I am STILL waiting for my suit to come in so i can go and doa track day. Then i should have something interesting to say.

====================================================================

31st March 2004, The bike is still running GREAT and i am enjoying it immensely. I need to go out for some rides really. But don't seem to be able to find the time. But i do have a small story to tell from last friday night. I AM SO LOOKING forward to my suit arriving. Then i will be signing up for a track day etc. All i am waiting for is the suit. The tank repair is on hold, as i dont care that it looks odd and patchy, when i do care i shall go get the paint ordered and clean it up. But for now. It's fine.

 I was on my way home late from work (11:30pm). And i was going down the big back road that leads to Simi. It was pitch black as there is no street lighting anywhere nearby. So was was going along at the speed limit of about 60 mph, and this was boring. No other cars so when i came over the rise, i decided to gun it and see what would happen, i had about a mile to go before the 50mph zone. Anyway the bike raced up to 152mph pretty darn easily, and if i had dropped a couple of gears i am sure it woulda been much faster. This is now the fastest i have been on this bike. And i really should try and go faster than i have been before, currently the record is 156-158mph on my yamaha 750. But it was so easy, and for once the backpack wasn't trying to pull me off the bike. It was sweet, and a great way to end the night :)

====================================================================

24th February 2004, Yay i can send my gauges tomorrow!  I tried a wheelie today, and i was nicely tucked next to the tank to hold on tight with my knees. But as the bike was coming up on the throttle i realised my new further forward position was making the bike come up too slowly. So part way up i decied to open the throttle a lot more. The bike came up sooo fast and crunched me nuts in the process. This all caused me to throttle off really fast and so the bike dropped back down like a stone. Doubt it looked very good, as it felt very uncomfortable. Crunched and a beating of a landing. ahhh well, better next time :D

Also decided to put up the picture of my new suit to be...

Hope you like it.

====================================================================

23rd February 2004, Put up my gauges on ebay, and they have sold for 91 dollars. Sweet, that's like my mint new ones only costing 60 bucks. I have been sanding the tank back down again now, as I found out the silver paint I used on the tank was such a bad match. I will have to go with the official Honda paint for this one. :(  I also discovered that even the smallest flaws can be seen once painted, so i am putting in more effort on the sanding, and I think it loks better already. now for the paint....

Otherwise the CBR is going well. In fact it's superb once more. My wheelie's are getting better, but I am still crap at them. Just starting to feel the throttle a bit more now, and actually consciously thinking about stuff whilst attempting them. The only other significant thing I have done is last thursday I went all the way to Moreno valley on the other side of LA. This was a 110 mile journey one way! I of course went on the bike, listening to tunes off my jukebox on the way there, but deciding not to bother on the way back. I just realised I never mentioned why I did this trip, well it was to get measured for my New Leather Two Piece Motorcycle suit. Yup I am so excited, and thanks should go to Janry and James at my work for helping my a Lot with the design, and Liza for helping with color distribution. Who knew designing and coloring a suit could be so time consuming and stressfull! I shall post a picture of the design real soon.

www.uponone.com  has some great video's and an excellent how to wheelie by Gary Rothwell.

The method i have been using for my wheelie's has been to go at about 2-25 mph, and then just yanking the throttle open. Very smooth and I now know I can yank it a lot faster, but on my bike there ain't a need too... Sweet. If I get any good, maybe i'll have a video or photo or some such posted here.

====================================================================

4th February 2004, Now I am feeling well again I decided to do some more on my bike. My new grips arrived (also include tank pad) ($35). So I wanted to get these on. I want the tank pad on, but I need to finish up repairing the tank first. So I went off to Pep boys (like Halfords!), and spent ages going through the silver paints they had. I eventually plumped for a Honda silver. I wasn't too hopeful of the match, but it can always be sanded back down after all eh!. So last night I put on my new grips, and I will not go into what an ordeal doing grips is (getting off the old ones is a pain!), but I did get it done, and my hands don't ache too much :) So then I got to do the painting. I have to say I am thoroughly disappointed in the way this paint has wrinkled. I had a primed and cleaned surface, but the wrinkles make a bearable looking job into a bit of a mess. It actually looks worse to my eyes than when I had the grey primer there! Well anyway here are some photo's.. You will see what I mean.

====================================================================

28th January 2004, Thought i'd put up the picture of my weekends work on the Tank. I also now have the bar ends on the bike and really think I will need to have the rear pegs anodized. They look a little out of place. Which is a pity really. Not sure where to get that done, but there must be a place. I had to ride in the rain last night, and i always forget just How Much i Love riding in the rain. It must be the fact it's evenly slippy, so it is controllable. Funny thing is how slow the cars were going round corners and accelerating off. I certainly had no problems :)  Oh yeah, I found a down side to having those beautiful solid state pegs.... When your shoes are wet, they slip all over the pegs. eek. Luckily they dry real quick.

====================================================================

25th January 2004, It's sunday now. And i decided i needed to attack the tank damage. The bike is working just great, but the tank remains the biggest/most obvious scar on the bike. I have also been busy buying some new grips and a tank pad off of Ebay. So I got some bondo from Pep-boys as they didn't have the filler i am most familiar with, Plastic padding. But lo and behold they are pretty much one and the same. Anyway i filled the scars and sanded them with my orbital palm sander. This worked great and then i neede another slight build up. Following this i undercoated the area. Now looking at it, i really like what i have done. it's closer than i expected to get to the original shape, so that good.

====================================================================

20th January 2004, At last i have bought the bar ends i wanted. Now i have to suffer waiting till they arrive. In the mean time here is the photo of my 600 i promised.

19th January 2004, My new footrests are Mega. They work so well. I can't put my finger on exactly what it is about them that works so well. But man, they feel gooood! Really good. and i am so glad i got them. Never again will i use the rubber topped kind of footrest. The feedback, the feel is great.

Now that's enough of the new footrests. I have done more on the 600 now. In fact i made a box to put the engine/frame onto while the front of the bike is removed. With Dad's help and Eliza we managed to remove the front forks. OMG what a mess the left fork is. I knew it had been leaking but the whole caliper is caked in gunge and oil. I will have to do some major cleaning to get it right. But now the front is off. tomorrow morning if i remember i will get a photo up.

====================================================================

16th January 2004, My Mum and Dad arrived yesterday and brought me amongst other things. My New red race pegs from my Bro in England. Here is a nice picture of them fitted. Oh yeah, they looked real small in the packet, but lo and behold when attached to their fitting bracket they are maybe a smidgen bigger than stock. I think they look rad (and were exceptionaly easy to attach). The new grips i purchased are a bit of a letdown. :(   One of them is badly discolored, but the seller was incredibly reasonable and will refund all the dosh. I shall keep my eyes open for another set.

So i just realised that i never mentioned my night a few days ago. I worked for about 2-3 hours removing my front end and then putting on the new lower fairing bracket($53) and all back together. It is now all solid and doesn't vibrate with a horrible noise any more when i reach 6K rpms. It looks all square too, which makes ya feel good. I also got my new wing mirror to put on as well($49). I reckon my next task will be the tank repair. More on that later. In the mean time with my Mum and Dad here i think i am gonna try to get some of the more major stuff sorted on the Katana 600. (it's always good to have an extra pair of hands).

HERE IT IS    DAVE....

me in All my glory gear.

====================================================================

10th January 2004 part 2, Hope you all liked my photo's i put up. My brother Dave has gotten some new footrests for me. I am looking forward to putting them on once my parents bring them in from England. They fly in 6 days now. So expect an update soon. I have also bought the new mirror and lower fairing stay, but it hasn't arrived yet :(   My latest purchase is some new grips. They say CBR on them in red/silver/black. So this will match the scheme perfectly. Hope they look good. Still no more bar ends that i like up for sale. Guess i will have to be patient this time. Because of the few things i need for the bike. i am not gonna join the www.sportbikers.net group for their weekend rides. Maybe next weekend... sure hope the 75 degree weather holds..

====================================================================

10th January 2004, Here are a few pictures i needed to put up. It was hard work but the bike is rideable again. In fact i have used it all this week. But i do not have a left side mirror, and it makes me go slowly and feel vulnerable. Which i HATE. So i decided to plump for an expensive one, cos i want it fast. Hopefully it will arrive today sometime. I also found that the bottom front fairing stay is slightly bent, to the left and down. Not much you understand, but the fairing is tighter on the left side and looser on the right. It is also a little low. This makes riding the bike feel a little odd, because when you look down, the bars don't seem to be pointing straight ahead :p  I have new gauges now ($147.50). This is an expensive purchase, but it is better than trying to mend the broken plastic on my own. I am gonna sell mine on Ebay, they go from anywhere in the 100-178 dollar region lately. So i am hoping mine goes for more than i paid for a pristine one :D I am really tentative on mike bike at present, partly because of the missing mirror, and partly because of falling off. Leaning to the left i am still going for it though, but to the right, ahem, i AM bad. It doesn't look like i will make my first track day in February. I need leathers and some commitment from myself.

Time for some pictures at last..

My homemade stand. Not yet welded either! and Still has no wheels...

followed by

Full picture of me on the bike. Complete with new gloves.

The back of the bike, before paint and mini-indicators..... After, all finished.

This is a photo taken while i worked on the bike. As you can see i had just completed the front Fairing.

Oh and my new gloves. Love em. Thanks for the recommendation Dave.

====================================================================

2nd January 2004, Here i am back again. Back at last to tell you what's been going on. On the 31st I realized I needed to get my front wheel off so i could take it to the Dr today (he wasn't open new years day!). So what could i do. I needed to get that front wheel suspended. So i decided to make a stand for the front of the bike. HAAHahah, Don't attempt this at home folks. It was a pain to make (mainly because i do not own an arc welder) . But after about 4-5 hours i reckon it was made and i had the bike suspended. Using it was a pain too as i don't have any wheels and Harbour-freight wasn't open :( With Lizas help i managed to get the front forks onto the stand (photo's when i have my new site). Then i took off the wheel. Man i had to remove the brake disks to get the brake calipers out of the way, there isn't enough room to just take them off without removing the disks first, What an annoyance. It was a very tiring day for me and i worked tremenduosly hard but i got the wheel ready for the Dr. So now it is today. I took the whole family 72 miles down to anaheim to Dr Johns to get the wheel repaired. Then we met some friends at the La Brea mall nearby. After about 1.5 hours they called me and told me it was all ready to go. So a bit later we went and collected it. I had a chat with Jim (johns bro). what a great guy. lotsa interesting stuff going on there, like a new custom looking harley thing they are making the frames for, sweet. Well 120 bucks later and then the drive home. I should mention here that there has been a massive storm over LA the whole day and therefore driving was a bit more of a pain than usual.

GSX600f -  Now i have the exhausts off. We shall see how i go, cos now i need to remove the front wheel and forks and brakes, hehee. Sounds like i need a front stand again!

My new gloves are wicked and i like them a lot. But i still don't have a jacket. But i have been given an offer to buy some custom made leathers, one piece for about 500 bucks, and a two piece for 100 bucks more. For the English that's more like 300 quid then two piece 60 quid more!!  This is sooo tempting www.dvxleathers.com . We shall see. 24 separate measurements. cooool.

====================================================================

27th December 2003, Cleared out some space on this server, and now for some pictures. So the left mirror (the one that was welded at the base doesn't look like it will last a 60 MPH wind. So i think i will remove it before i ride. The inserts for the clip-ons may be damaged. So my bar ends don't fit correctly. It looks like i might have to do some surgery and take off the handle and remove it's innards! I bought an Impact driver and socket/hex combo set. So i can maybe try and take off the exhaust on my 600 tomorrow. That would be novel, working on the 600 :o  As yet i have received no call back from the Dr. But i have sent off pictures and an email about getting my helmet painted. A place round the corner from the MC wheel repair place in huntington beach.

The bike in it's pristine glory. You can just make out the slider and the new red levers. Also to note is the license plate and mirror extenders.

My legs. hahahaha

Ok, told ya they were mine! and me new boots.

====================================================================

25th December 2003, Just remembered i missed some details out about yesterday.  I also fitted the frame sliders yesterday. I put on the left side one no problem. It looked great all countersunk into the frame and all. Then when i put on the right side one i noticed it didn't look flush. Upon inspection i found that the right side only have about a 3 millimeter depression. Whereas the left side had about 14 millimeters. This meant the right side didn't look good to me. So i decided as usual to modify the slider. Some major cutting and filing later the slider was fitted and is countersunk the same as the left side. It looks mega, and i would recommend this easy fix to anyone with a proud slider problem. One more upside of this mod, is that it will now be stronger too :)

It's raining again, so i still can't go out :p  Merry xmas...

====================================================================

24th December 2003, Got a lot more done today. Fitted all bits that make up the rest of the fairing. And now i know a hell of a lot more about how my bikes bits go back together! It looks good. In fact i think it looks mega. I decided to email spyderracing.com and ask about my order not fitting my bike, i shall now them a few days, it is xmas after all! So i thought i would put the original damaged ones back on for now, and on one side they don't quite fit properly :( Also the other side seems loose. I may need to ask at the Honda shop about this little conundrum! I reckon with the new pegs and the bar ends looking right, it will look awesome. Well apart form the scratches of course. And i figure i will slowly accumulate nicer parts over time, as they come up on ebay at the right price (which means a steal!). I would have a nice picture or two up now, but it has been raining ALL day. So i will wait until i can take the bike back outside and get a good photo.

I am in the process of creating a head/front stand for my bike. I know i can do it outta wood. Just not sure about the top horizontal bar and how strong it will be. Needs more conscious thought! My friend Janry tells me he has been out doing smoe canyon riding on my old 750, hope he had a good time. I should call i suppose :p (or Janry u could call me).

Oh i almost forgot my boots arrived. They are a smidgen too big, which is a real surprise for me, i shall have to wear a nice extra pair of socks or some of my ski socks. Then they should be perfect. Funny picture to come soon.

====================================================================

23rd December 2003, The new levers came today anodized red($45), already fitted and looking good. They would look even better if the new bar ends would actualy fit my bike. It seems they don't and i am now gonna have to chase that up with the company that sold them to me! I have also fitted the windshield and the mirrors, complete with extenders! Also put back on the grab rail (newly painted).

Well well well. After much ado about the flush mounted light i decided to see what was on offer on ebay, and managed to collect smoe inner fairings for only 20 bucks or so. Sweet, so now i have modified mine (cut them bad man!), and put on the flush mounted lights. They look pretty sweet i think.

I rode the bike down the road and am very happy with the way it feels, even though it's wet outside :o  So now i have to put on the side fairings and get my front wheel done :)

====================================================================

22nd December 2003, BIG POST TODAY!  I am not too well toady, i have been getting slightly worse over the last few days, but today it really has caught up with me. What a bummer. This means i was unable to do too much to my bike. Two things arrived today, my new bar ends in anodized red($18). Also some go fatser stickers, which i'll show you and talk about once i have the thing back together($11.50) ;) I have decided to replace my gauges, well actually I am gonna buy a new set (ebay) and then take off the back for mine, then try and find a back plate from a breakers for cheap. I am more worried today about the lower front fairing stay. It seems that things don't look quite right to me.

It seems hard to me to put back on the front fairing and light assembly, it's hard because i am not exactly sure what kinda bolts etc go where, what a pain. I am also sure there is a proper sequence when mounting the thing too :o   It's on but not quite finished as yet. I have the front left indicator to put on as well and probably the left side inner cover. Then i shall give it a small ride (remember the bent lip on the front wheel, u c it in this picture). So here it is :)

So i spent quite a bit of time today trying to figure out the flush mounted lights i got with my upper fairing. I got some new bullet connectors and rehashed everything together, and the misc bits i bought came in handy, cos i managed to cut off the connectors for the proper indicators :)  But now i have a problem. The stupid flush mounted lights are massive, they are too think to fit in between my upper fairing and the inside cover.. ARGH! here is the proof. So i now realise this means i will have to CUT a whole into the inner cover, eeek. So i am currently looking at getting some cheap off Ebay, until then the original indicators will have to do. But i do want the flush mounts on for sure.. never easy is it!

size of gap, the the size of the light!

====================================================================

21st December 2003, After getting the old oil pan off the bike yesterday, i got around to cleaning the engine ready fro the new gasket. Of course nowadays they use a paste, gasketcinch it's called, recommended by the honda shop. I wasn't feeling too good about it after applying it as directed, it didn't look like it was up to much. But whadya know, it seems to work just fine. Cos after i got the sump back on, i filled up the bike with oil, the new synthetic HP4. Then let Liza do the honours with starting it. I then wheeled it down to the roadside to let it burn off the oil i had gotten on the exhaust, I also refixed the exhaust back to the bike properly :) Although i think it's possible i may have an exhaust leak, i'll retighten the bolts when she's cold again.

When i was putting it back into the garage, i drove it down the road to turn it around and drive it into the garage. I did notice that it looks like the lower fairing stay at the front might just be bent, I am hoping i can fix everything back together anyway. Oh yeah, i did put on the upper fairing stay. Now i am wondering if i put on the top fairing without having the side fairings on. Trial and error will/should provide me with an answer :o Made some more unsuccesful bids on ebay. Nothing major, but i was hoping to get a steal. We shall see tomorrow what it brings...

====================================================================

20th December 2003, YAY, finally something happened. Yesterday the Oil Pan FINALLY arrived (90$). I spent a while last night cleaning it up, and will try and get it on today sometime soon. Then i can at least try and run the engine again, and hear the beautiful sound of 954 cc's going at it :D  It is in tip top condition and so i went off to my local honda shop in Simi. What a great buncha guys they are. Got some gasket paste($5.75) and asked for some more advice about the pan. So now it's ready to go. Also the front brake reservoir and hoses arrived($25.50) (just the cap is 40+ dollars from honda!). I got these real cheap of ebay, and they are in top condition, and arrived in about 2 days :o.

====================================================================

19th December 2003, I seem to be getting more depressed about not riding my bike. It doesn't help when i am not receiving parts, therefore can't see an end to my woes. Still awaiting most of the important bits. AND YES the oil pan Still has not arrived. Getting frustrated with that!

====================================================================

17th December 2003, I forgot to mention a DVD arrived that i bought thru Ebay. It was well worth it, much much better than my star boyz dvd i can tell ya. See a preview at www.insanevideos.com , I highly recommend it. My Misc parts arrived yesterday too ($25.50), Liza was a little concerned because some of the parts had rash, or were looking less than perfect. This is what i bought though 'MISC PARTS'. Mainly because a few of the parts are well worth that kinda money, in fact just the brake lever alone is worth $35 ish. Also got a lead on some road racing type boots. I missed the auction end by about 2 minutes. But after an email it seems the guy is gonna sell em to me anyway. Sweet! (oh yeah, 30 bucks and 10 shipping!) Gosh i nearly forgot, the www.ZeroGravityRacing.com fixings set arrived today for my windshield ($14.95). Excellent looking stuff, Even the bolts are METAL, unlike the really expensive oem ones!

====================================================================

16th December 2003, Not much to tell at the moment, i seem to be in a holding pattern! Which is to say i am awaiting arrival of two of the most important parts to my bike. The oil pan, and the upper fairing stay. It is possible the stay might arrive later today. Meanwhile i have bidding like a madman :)  Not winning much, but i WILL have new levers in anodized red coming my way soon. Sweet. Also keep putting in low bids on stuff that is remarkably cheap, just in case i actually get lucky. The guy i received the microfiche CD from did not like my neutral feedback. Boy i guess he took it personaly. hehe. His fault, he should have a decent product in the first place. Top seller though, nice service etc. Crap DPI on the scans :(

I have also started repairing my control panels back, which is missing a chunk. But this item is so damn expensive, and all mine needs is the back casing! We'll just have to see how the plastic repair goes. Now i am also following in my brothers footsteps and looking into clothing on ebay. some cheap some not. shuold be interesting. Later folks.

====================================================================

12th December 2003, Received the wing mirrors($31)(one has been repaired) and the mirror extenders too ($31) :). Although i would love to get these on, without the belly pan being done it seems like a waste of time. And as for the belly pan, i just received an email saying it was sent today, ARGH, he said he would send it LAST Friday, this does annoy me greatly!. I was also busy today bidding on a new upper fairing stay, but alas the auction got too pricey, so i have opted to buy one from www.bikebandits.com At least i know it won't be bent! While i was ordering the stay, i figured i should add anything else i might need and save some shipping costs. So i know i needed the fixings for the windshield. OUCH, the official prices are so dramatic. It would have cost me $27.81 to get the pieces i need. And that ain't the whole set! Anyway i found a whole package/set from ZeroGravity for only 12 bucks :)

====================================================================

11th December 2003, Received the mudgaurd replacement unit ($25.50). It's pretty sweet really. Although i have to say, a sentence like 'then disconnect the indicators', sounds real simple huh?! Well let me tell ya it wasn't. Took me about 40 minutes to get this bit done, and only about 10 minutes to get all the rest of it done. What a pain. I had to open up the rear fairing and take off my grab rail. Because of this i decided to respray it after a slight sanding. That shuold finish off the grab rail. Once it's dry i shall put it back on. The bad news though is I discovered that although the grab rail saved the back of the bike from being smashed. It did bend the small aluminum mounts it uses at the very back. So this caused the rear fairing cowl tabs to be broken, one pretty severly. Will need a major fix or replacement at some time. But for now i will have my grab rail over the top, so it will be strong anyway.

Anyway now to the before and after. Sorry about the quality, i am still getting used to my digital camera :o

So do you like the only Major mod i am doing ?

====================================================================

9th December 2003, Received my right side fairing ($139). It doesn't appear to be quite as good a condition as i had hoped. Ahh well. It is a Solid chunk of plastic for sure.

====================================================================

8th December 2003, Received my parts from www.BikeBandits.com ($54.35) a couple of brackets that got bent and the replacement left footrest mount. I'll put up some piccies when i'm done :)  Also started bidding on a front bike stand, and a spent more money on mirror extenders from www.rrmotorsports.com .

shiny new footrest mount, ahhhhhh.

====================================================================

7th December 2003, Worked on ebay buying some more stuff, yesterday i lost an auction because i got distracted at the last moment. So i didn't bid :(. Ahh well there is another :) Did however receive my top fairing which is mega ($179). Also fixed my scraped grab-rail. And hit my rear wheel with me rubber mallet!

====================================================================

3rd December 2003, Got my frame sliders today, they look great. I will have to wait to put them on though. Fairing should be first.

43 dollars...  BAD news of the day is... found the shifter rod is bent. But i am sure i can fix it.

====================================================================

2nd December 2003, So Whats happening now eh ?

  Well i spent many hours browsing thru bike mags, and looking around on the web for help in recovering aftermarket parts, and also just plain used parts. After a lot of time i was very frustrated by not really finding much. Therefore i was slowly coming round to the fact that i would have to plump for all the OEM parts from Honda. That makes me squirm i can tell ya.

  Then i found more bad news. The liquid leaking from the bottom fairing of the bike was traced to  the oil sump/belly pan has a nice 1 inch crack in the aluminium. ARGH! Of course i had to remove all the front plastic to find this out. Which also unveiled the fact that the right side fairing has mounting points broken as well as the holes and scratches. Ahh well. This WAS depressing stuff.

  But then i was found EBAY, and realised that is where ALL the bike parts now reside (well until someone like me buys them! :) ). So now i am a happy EBAY customer with help from PAYPAL which seems very nice too. I will put up photo's of all the parts i replace on the bike. So far i am awaiting delivery on some items i got for a GREAT price. Hope my luck continues.

Cya'll next time...

Evening......

AHA, I am now back from work, and it's time to START some repairs to the bike, before some of the bits i have ordered turn up...I begin work on the brake foot pedal, which has gotten very ground and bent. It's aluminium and so i am unsure how good this is gonna turn out.

Gosh I am really happy with how it turned out, apart from a good polishing i made some design mod's and really  like it.

Sorry about the quality, i shall endeavor to do better from now on. It's bent anyway! Corner ground down a little.

This is after i used my torch and hammers and vise. Then i used my 41/4 Grinder to smooth it all out. Even chamfered(?) the tread sweet eh!

Type of Accident: Low Sided (front wheel washout)

When:  20th November 2003

Bike: On my Lovely CBR954RR

In Brief:

  The Bike is a bit of a mess but I am fine. Bruising and a few grazes is all have. Internally however my brain aches for my baby. My dream bike, that has been so swiftly smashed from under me.

The Story...

It was about 1:20ish on Thursday. I had been to Home Depot and was on my way back to work in Moorpark. While I was exiting the 118 freeway I was being held up by a boatload of traffic going very slowly ahead of me. So while crawling along behind this traffic the option of going into the left lane arrived. I decided to take this option and go back onto the freeway, eventually coming  around in a big circle and back to work. The lights changed pretty darn quickly and the traffic that was headed onto the on-ramp all had to stop for me, I saw a lot of tire smoke from a gold colored pickup and was glancing at this while I turned left onto the curving on-ramp. I mention this because it helped give me a good perspective on what the traffic behind me was doing and the fact that it made me turn slowly onto the on-ramp. Then I proceeded to start the right turn onto the banked part of the road. It was at this point that I realized that the road in front of me was a darker if not also browner color than the rest of the road. I knew that it was a diesel spill, but I was headed straight for it. I always stay low on this corner because mostly spills fall away from the inside of the corner due to centrifugal action on the spilling diesel. This time it was right in front of me, I knew I would have to go through it, but figured I was going so slow it might just make me squirm a little. I got myself ready to deal with the lightness I would feel at the front end and then rolled over the slippy area. (FIG A)

This is where it got really wrong in my opinion. It didn't just get light, the front end just went. I felt like I was wrestling with the bars to lift the bike and turn more into the corner as I went down. But it was like I had hit ICE. I have only gone down this fast on ice before. It was a shocker! As soon as I hit the road my leather gripped and the bike left me. The leathers are way more grippy than the shiny bits on the bike are. So it is normal for the bike to travel much further than the rider. Well the trousers gripped the road and had the effect of spinning me around to face where I had just come from, then it rolled me onto my back, then my jacket got a good grip and I rolled onto my left shoulder. At this point I was in fear of my helmet touching the ground and I used my left hand to try to hold my head up. But this was not to be, and the shoulder leather gripped and eventually flipped my up and over my head. Then I came to a stop. (FIG D)

I knew I had quite a bit of time to get up as the traffic had stopped at the light. I took a glance at them, and they were far away so I tested my parts. And fumed inside my helmet, all to the sounds of my bike crunching in the background, or that's how it felt anyway. So I got up and sauntered over to the side of the road, only glancing at my bike, noticing straight away all the broken bits of plastic strewn across the road. Once at the side of the road I started to take off my jacket and helmet. I was pretty angry at this point, I felt and Still feel annoyed and more.. about falling while doing nothing to deserve it. Yeah I know, the life of a biker.

As I walked over to the bike (FIG C) a nice lady in an SUV stopped and asked me if I needed a cell phone. To which I replied that I would appreciate that. She had three girls in the back, and so hopefully they have learned that motorcycling is a dangerous game, and will therefore not discover the longing that biking brings. well I digress... I tried desperately to phone people at work, and they were all out to lunch still (metaphorically maybe!). This was a little frustrating, but then Dan, a workmate of mine appeared out of thin air and was parked behind me now. I should add here that where I ended up on the on ramp is sorta at the side out of the way of the two main lanes onto the freeway, like a secluded spot. When I saw Dan I thanked the lady for the use of the phone and let her go on her way. It was a very nice gesture from her, and I really appreciate it with the whole of my heart.

So now Dan helped me lift the bike and that's when I saw the full extent of the damage. It really hurt me to see my baby in such a state. I must admit that this is my dream bike. It cost me more than anything I have ever purchased, and I don't have collision insurance.   But the attachment I have to the bike is not just a sentimental one. It's a pal, a buddy, who always makes me feel good when I need it. That's what riding gives ya, once you have traveled to that point in biking madness. Somewhere about this time I realized that the bike had taken more damage than it should have for just sliding across the road. It was now I knew looking at the marks on the road and the damage to the bike what had happened. After it had left me it had slid on till it hit the curbing nearby (FIG B), this had Flipped the bike, and caused most of the actual damage too, life eh!  Dan used his cell phone to try to get people at work, eventually he got Lee and he called Gerry (his Dad) to bring the flatbed and trailer. Thank goodness I have such a great group of friends to rely on and help me out in my times of need. The policeman (local law enforcement) arrived and chatted for a while. He had to notify the CHP because the incident was on the on-ramp. Dan was still be very supportive which was good because my emotional state was a bit variable. Happy I was in one piece but really sad about my bike. Then the policeman left, and about 5 minutes later the CHP officer arrived. Another nice fellow who was very helpful and informative. He eventually stayed till the bike and myself left the scene.

Andy, another biker workmate of mine arrived to help out and also parked just ahead of my bike. After a short while and some cell phone calls later by both Andy and Dan, the cavalry arrived. Gerry was in the F250 (I think it is!) towing the trailer and carrying a cab full of people. They pulled in the back of our little caravan now (musta looked like massive multi-car pileup) and out got Paul, Bob, Ian, Lee and of course Gerry. They then proceeded to get the bike onto the trailer. I had already managed to get the bike back into neutral with Andy's help. Even though the footrest for the gear selector was busted off. Once on the trailer the policeman provided us with some webbing straps, which worked really well. Thanks mister highway patrolman, and he didn't even want them returned. Then most the crew went back to work and I went home with Andy and Gerry and Lee took the bike home for me. I should mention that while I was with the first policeman I couldn't find my insurance paperwork for the bike. This caused me to havta phone Eliza my wife. Which wasn't a good thing. Even though I was ok. Gladly she reacted ok, but it musta been difficult for her. Especially as I think it took about an hour to finally get home.

Obviously my wife was relieved to see me in one piece. Now the bike is parked awaiting a journey to the bike shop for an estimate (Thanks Lee and Gerry for the loan of the trailer). I am gonna guess it will be around 3-4K dollars, but maybe I am being pessimistic :o  I later slept for a long period. Even though I hadn't suffered my usual adrenaline and shock reaction this time. I guess all that emotion plum wore me out.

I shall try to update this page in the coming weeks, and hopefully will end up with a nice picture of my bike resurrected soon.
